A Day in the Life of an Online Marketing Specialist
by Stephanie Bishop on 11.16.2010 in Company News, Interactive Marketing 0
It’s Monday morning. I’m at work and I get to spend my day “playing” online.
As an Online Marketing Specialist with Brighton Agency, I am tasked with managing all of the social media platforms – including Facebook, Twitter and blogs – for our clients. Beyond taking the lead in our clients’ social media presence, I also assist Brighton’s diverse team with online marketing opportunities, such as e-mail marketing, search engine optimization and much more.
So where do I begin? Well, when I arrive at the office, the first thing I do is log on to our monitoring platforms like CoTweet, Google Analytics and Radian6 to look for any activity on our accounts. With many of our clients, I will send updates and notices about the overnight activity level.
After managing our monitoring platforms, I log on to the direct accounts, where I respond to any outstanding comments and recent activity. Typically, I will post a comment, question, video or link on each account every day to keep fans and followers interested in coming back for more. One of the challenges in managing a social media account is learning when and how to respond to users’ questions, while maintaining authenticity. Sometimes I engage the client for an appropriate response, and other times I have the authority and messaging to respond instantly. At Brighton, I am able to rely on our motivated and qualified team of interactive professionals to help me brainstorm as needed for leveraging new outreach opportunities.
Although a lot of my focus stays on social media, checking on accounts throughout the day, that’s not all I do. As previously mentioned I also work on other online marketing projects. For instance, one day I could be working on an e-mail marketing project, uploading, testing and sending e-mails, followed by tending to social media accounts, while the next I could be working on paid search campaigns and search engine optimization for websites. And I can’t forget another big part of my job –reporting, analyzing and optimizing campaigns!
Being able to work on a variety of projects and online marketing opportunities is one of the best things about my job –there are no “typical” days in the office. Without a doubt, every day is unique.
An important part of being successful in an online marketing role is having a passion and interest in social media and online capabilities. Staying up to date on the latest social media and online marketing news, I read newsletters and test out different programs on a daily basis. As the online world is constantly evolving, I love being able to dig in and focus my attention to the various areas online marketing has to offer!
