There’s one in every family – texting at the dinner table, checking emails from Santa’s lap, and tweeting under the mistletoe. With so many gadgets and gizmos out there, how do you choose the right one for the techy in your family? Whether it’s for work or pleasure, these suggestions from our Brighton team will be sure to impress!

1)      iPad. The iPad is as trendy as they come, but the tablet computer is also seamless for professional use. The flat panel screen is ideal for quickly accessing and viewing websites with a group, but also lightweight and compact enough to take on the go. Well-rounded in nature, the iPad also makes a great gift for personal fun, like web surfing, playing games, or checking out the latest YouTube video. With an endless number of Apps available for download, a tech-junkie will never be bored with your gift.

2)      Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500. Do you know someone who wants a quick and easy way to save critical papers without the mess? Or has their office recently gone paperless? The Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 digitalizes and archives financial papers in a snap. Great for tax returns and other business documents, the scanner can download up to 20 pages per second. It can keep even the most disorganized person on your holiday list clutter-free.

3)      Livescribe pulse smartpen. Is there someone on your holiday shopping list that constantly takes notes or is a writer? If so, the Livescribe pulse smartpen is the essential holiday gift. The pen saves notes written on special paper as an image. With the built-in voice recorder, the smartpen is perfect for quick notes at the office or personal contact information. If the gift receiver is still in school, the recorder is a great way to listen to class notes without all of the paper.

4)      Dropbox. While Dropbox may not be the traditional holiday gift; it is vital to the technology inclined. Think of Dropbox as a USB keychain in the clouds. Each Dropbox signup comes with a free 2 GB of space, but if the user desires more than 2G there are add-on options. Space for up to 50 GB costs $9.99 per month and 100 GB is $19.99 per month. Clients are available for every major operating system and mobile device, so you’ll never be far from your files. Buy the tech-geek on your list, a monthly or yearly subscription to safely store all of their music, professional, and video files.

5)      Nike + iPod. For the athlete in us all, Nike has teamed up with iPod to present your new personal trainer. While the app requires the Nike+ shoe, a sensor within the shoe connects to a receiver on your iPod or iPhone. The software includes a workout playlist, so you can load all of the best power songs. It simultaneously analyzes and monitors your running data. After a workout, the data is further analyzed to track progress and performance. In addition, the included software enables users to connect with runners from all over the world allowing you to join in virtual marathons or organized race days.
