Apps for One, Apps for All!

Whether you have an iPad, an iPhone, or any other type of smartphone you’re more than likely aware of applications, better known as “apps” that you can get either for free or for purchase on your device.
With all the different apps available though, which ones should you get?
Well, here at Brighton, we’ve complied some of our favorite apps (in categories, of course!) to share with you in hopes to make your decisions just a little bit easier.
Games
- Words with Friends – The most popular multiplayer game for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, this crossword game allows users to play multiple games against friends online at your own pace, with the options to pass and play locally, or matchmake with a random opponent.
- Tilt to Live – Tilt for your Life! The title speaks for itself in this iPhone and iPod Touch game. The full version is available for $2.99, although there is a released Tilt to Live Free Lite version.
- Angry Birds – One of the highest ranked paid applications, this puzzle game uses a slingshot to launch birds at pigs. Yes, you read that right. Not completely sold? Then try the game out for free, check out the Angry Birds Lite version
Other games to check out include Qrank, Cut the Rope, Tetris, Veggie Samurai and Paper Toss.
Just for Kids (or the kid at heart)
- Make Me A Princess – Made especially for the girl who loves to play dress up like a princess, this app allows users to create their own princess character and dress her up! The full version is available for $0.99; however there is a free Lite version.
- Memoryze – This addicting memory game, great for kids and parents, challenges users to memorize number and letter sequences. Available on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad for $0.99.
- Lasers Free – This free, yes FREE laser game, includes 50 levels of full game plus 15 bonus levels!
- Kid Paint – Great for kids, this multitouch painting program allows children to showcase their artistic side with random brush sizes and colors. This application is available on the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Android for $0.99. Ready. Set. Paint!
Additional apps include Drawing Pad, Crazy Photo Booth, Tesla Toy, Little Gems and Sketchbook.
Sports
- ESPN ScoreCenter – Calling all sports fans! If you’re a fan of ESPN and want to keep up with all the latest team news and scores, then be sure to download this free app. Score!
- Sportacular – This free sports app hosted by Yahoo! is another great way to access all the latest live scores and information on your favorite teams, players and leagues. Free game alerts are also included.
Other sports apps include ScoreMobile, MyFantasy Teams and SportsTap.
Travel/Weather
- Google Earth – Currently available on Nexus One, iPhone and Droid phones, as well as the iPod touch and iPad, this free app allows you to explore the world from the palm of your hand –literally!
- The Weather Channel – Always on the go? Not sure what the weather forecast is? Then be sure to download The Weather Channel mobile app –also available on the iPad!
- Delta Airlines – Travel a little easier with the free Delta Airlines mobile app, available on the iPhone and Blackberry. Features include downloadable boarding passes, flight statuses, terminal and gate info and more.
- SWA (Southwest Airlines) – If you’re a frequent flier who uses Southwest Airlines, then this app is perfect for you! Available on the Blackberry, iPhone and Droid, this app allows you to check-in, change reservations and more!

Life/Leisure
- Dropbox – Access your files anywhere and everywhere you go with Dropbox! Currently available on the iPhone, Droid, Blackberry and iPad. For what? For FREE!
- Night Stand – For $1.99 iPhone and iPad users can download the Night Stand app, which features alarms (of course), a stop watch, weather, themes and HD!
- Instapaper – Have you ever found something to read only to realize you’ve run out of time? Instapaper provides a Read Later bookmark, which allows you to save an article and read it at your convenience. This free tool is available on iPhone, iPad and Kindle.
Additional apps to consider include Bump, Amazon Window Shopping, Textie, Infinicam, Wikipanion, Remote, and Craig’s Pro.
