The Five Most Updated and Engaging Blogs to Follow for the Social Media (Tech) “Geek”

What is the first thing you do in the morning? Shower? Sip your freshly brewed coffee? For some of us “tech geeks” it might be checking personal email and Twitter or reading the newest blogs. I can speak for a number of us when I say we want to be the first to know it all. Knowing who to turn to as the most trusted news source in the tech world is top priority. In today’s workplace, we rarely have time to spend hours reading the news. Whether you are looking for insight into the latest social media metrics or just want to learn about Facebook’s new Share button, you won’t miss anything reading these blogs.

-          Mashable: With 20 or more blog posts a day on average, Mashable is the place to go for breaking news in the tech world. This blog offers tips and information on what’s happening right now in digital, social media and technology news. Not only does Mashable post frequently, but it also holds a wide variety of authorship. This increases engagement and variation in style to accommodate each reader’s preferences.

-          HubSpot: This inbound Internet marketing blog is built off of HubSpot’s software product program which aids users in understanding online marketing. The company created this blog to continuously educate readers in inbound marketing work while covering social media, SEO, lead generation, public relations, web analytics and web design. This blog also offers different techniques to improve your online connections while avoiding possible mistakes.

-          Convince and Convert: Blogger Jay Baer focuses on how to “be” social before educating on how to “do” social. As the co-author of the new book The Now Revolution: 7 Shifts to Make Your Business Faster, Smarter and More Social he gives readers practical social media advice and also sends out a social media email newsletter twice a week!

-          Social Media Explorer: In addition to social media news, Social Media Explorer adds conversational marketing, public relations, community building and branding to its content. Co-author and editor Jason Falls prioritizes diversity of authorship while writing from a more creative perspective. Rather than quickly giving readers news-related articles and stats, Falls adds resonance to each update by giving an illustration of how the idea can play out.

-          Brass Tack Thinking: Unlike the previously mentioned blogs, Brass Tack Thinking is co-authored by two women who work in the brand and business strategist community. Amber Naslund is the VP of social strategy for Radian6 and co-author with Jay Baer of The Now Revolution. Tamsen McMahon is the Director of Digital and Strategic Initiatives at Sametz Blackstone. Both bloggers write from personal experience about working with social media and help readers with solutions and tips for continued improvement in the tech world.

With the heavy time commitment blogs entail, it’s impressive to see each of the above sites continually generating content. Everyone has personal preferences for daily blog reading, therefore, with this enticing list of authors, I hope you can choose which style of writing fits you best. Why not subscribe to each of these blogs through your Google reader account? Or simply follow on Twitter by adding the handle located below each description.

Happy following!
