Making an Agency Meeting a Walk in the Park

There we were…it was the middle of October and the weather was 80 degrees and gorgeous. Who wouldn’t want to escape the office for a couple of hours and enjoy the beautiful fall day? But with all of the work on our plates, who has time to enjoy the great outdoors? Maybe it’s time to find a reason to take work outside!

Since we’re all running around like crazy to meet the needs and demands of our clients, we continue to find it hard to dedicate time to “talking amongst ourselves.” We decided to take advantage of two terrific opportunities: holding an all-agency meeting and enjoying nature in one of our area’s fabulous parks.

We walked to a nice quiet spot under a pavilion in Clayton’s Shaw Park and settled in for our meeting. Of course, last minute plans always come with a hitch. Turns out our pavilion was rented so we had to migrate quickly to another nearby location. No worries! A series of picnic tables were off in the distance. In a couple of minutes, we were all set, lunch in hand and ready to go. Just as we were ready to begin, the mowers and tree choppers also began their business. So much for a nice quiet outing to discuss agency matters.

In spite of the noise (which eventually subsided), we were able to take advantage of the beautiful weather to focus on the agency for an hour. It was the perfect chance to remind ourselves just how many great people work here at Brighton. Everyone is usually so focused on their day-to-day to-do lists, but this gave us a chance to step back and look at the bigger picture. We talked through our organizational structure, our need to communicate verbally (emails often get in the way of a good old fashioned conversation!), our need to be aware of everything that is going on across the departments and other fun stuff that makes a good business operate like a great business.

Just think how awesome we could be if we had weather like this more often!
